The L.I.P. Program

“A dragon has just flown over the tree-tops and lighted on the beach. Yes, I am afraid it is between us and the ship. And arrows are no use against dragons. And they’re not at all afraid of fire.”

“With your Majesty’s leave-” began Reepicheep.

“No, Reepicheep,” said the King very firmly, “you are not to attempt a single combat with it.”

-C. S. Lewis, Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Leaders In Progress

Interested in working with children? Looking for a chance to prove yourself and get references for work, or scholarships? Looking for volunteer hours for school credit, Duke of Edinburgh, or just because you want to help? We run a training program for 16-18 year olds that may be for you!

The Leader In Progress (L.I.P.) program is a leadership and work skills training opportunity for youth between 16 and 18 years old. It is an excellent opportunity for hands-on learning of the camp operations and provides participants with valuable skills should they be hired at Camp Narnia or other recreational facilities. LIPs receive group leadership and community building training and gain experience in leading groups of children in activities and taking the lead on camp programs.

While the L.I.P. program is a lot of fun, it is also lots of hard work. Our young volunteers get many of the heavy tasks that need doing to run a camp, like cleaning dishes, scrubbing bathrooms, and moving program supplies around the property. Those tasks are balanced by a chance to shadow counsellors in their work, play games with the campers, supervise younger campers during quiet time, and a few special LIP programs organized just for them.

Admission Requirements

  • Preference is given to former Camp Narnia campers and returning L.I.P.s.
  • Applicants should be 16–18 years old at the time of the program. Teens with late birthdays who will have completed Grade 10 by the summer are also welcome to apply if they wish.
  • Submit an application form (see below) and participate in an interview with the L.I.P. Coordinator.
  • 2nd Year LIPs who express interest in additional Counsellor In Training opportunities on their application form will need to demonstrate an understanding of and respect for Camp Narnia’s programs, philosophy, and rules of conduct, and have demonstrated skills in working with children.

Program Dates

Leader in Progress sessions are assigned based on availability supplied by LIP applicants, space on each week’s team, and program needs to ensure a balance of 1st Year and 2nd Year LIPs. Apart from our single week option, all LIP sessions span two full camper sessions. This allows LIPs to settle into the program, build their skill set, and delve deeply into community building and leadership training with their Leader in Progress Coordinator. Sessions for Summer 2024 are as follows:

Session One

July 7th – July 20th

Session Two (single week option)

July 21st – July 27th

Session Three

July 30th to August 10th

Session Four

August 11th to August 24th

Program Fees

Cost for the L.I.P. program is $315 per week to cover room/board and training resources. Individuals who are accepted to the program will be able to register and pay for their sessions via Camp Narnia’s online registration system between May 1 and May 30.
