School Camps

April - June / September - October

Camp Narnia has developed innovative camp activities to complement the curriculum you are teaching. Consult with the camp director ahead of time to build a program that will suit your needs.

Selecting Activities – In choosing your activities you will need to consider:

The amount of time you have and the number of students you are bringing
The maximum capacity of each activity at a time. For large groups who stay a short time it is not possible to do everything the camp offers.

Activities

Homesteadingstudents develop the skills of fire building and outdoor cooking while learning lessons in history and science. 10-40 persons

Hazardiniaa challenge course in the forest that combines imagination with problem solving ability. By using creative thinking and co-operation, travelers in the Land of Hazardinia discover ways to deal with a variety of physical and mental obstacles. 8-10 persons

Shelter builiding group activityShelter Building – A grade 4/5 social studies curriculum-linked shelter-building activity in the Narnian forest that brings together elements such as exploration, bartering, community building, bilingualism, and a relationship with the natural environment taught by Elders. This is an excellent way to bring your subject material to life for your class! Please call us for further information. Average 40 persons.

“I really appreciate the extra effort you put into tying it into the curriculum - it is a link that the kids and I will be able to refer to through the course of the whole year. Now THAT'S what I call education in action!” Margo Andersen, teacher Eagle View Elementary, fall 2005.

Outdoor Climbinga rock bluff in the forest offers beginners an introduction to climbing using a safety harness.

Hikingfrom easy forest walks to more strenuous mountain hiking.

Selecting Activities for a successful Program

• Discuss with your students which activities they would prefer. The amount of time you have, the number of students you are bringing, and the number of persons appropriate for an activity will affect your choices. Note that for large groups staying a short time it is not possible to do everything the camp offers.

• Consult with the camp director well ahead of time to build your program. We will set up a schedule that best accommodates your interests in the time periods available. We will fax the proposed program to you ahead of the trip. Check-in and check-out times will be set by the camp so as to coordinate with camp activities, meals, bus schedules, and arrivals and departures of other groups.
