* includes Counsellor
in Training (C.I.T.) option
Applicants who have completed the 1st year
L.I.P. program at Camp Narnia or equivalent
training are invited to apply for the 2nd
year program. Beginning in 2006 interviews
are required, preferably in person or, in
extenuating circumstances, may be conducted
by phone. Interviews will be scheduled both
in Victoria and Vancouver.
Due to an increasing popularity of the
L.I.P. program and the consequent growing
number of applicants we have made some changes
to the 2nd year component of the program.
This is in order to provide participants
with the opportunity for a higher level
of training before assuming the responsibilities
of a cabin counsellor. Applicants will have
the option to apply for a position as a
C.I.T. (Counsellor in Training) in their
second year. The applicants’ past
performance in the L.I.P. program, together
with other related experience and the personal
interview are all considered in selecting
participants for the L.I.P. II and C.I.T.
programs.
A L.I.P. II will, at times, assist counsellors
with their cabins and learn to play a more
integral role in the camp operations as
well as participate in a new series of in-service
training. This training may include First
Aid certification, belaying certifications
for rock climbing and canoe certifications
among others. There will also be more opportunity
for the participants to explore leadership
roles, learn about child development and
care and give thought to their own personal
goals and how working at camp may help them
to attain these.
A C.I.T. is a Counsellor in Training who
will be assigned the responsibilities as
a junior cabin counsellor. They will still
be under the direction and supervision of
the L.I.P. Co-ordinator. L.I.P. II participants
may, upon successful completion of their
session, apply to be a C.I.T. the following
summer in order to gain more experience.
Please understand that due to the number
of applicants for counsellor positions we
are unable to guarantee participants of
the L.I.P. program a position of employment
at Camp Narnia. As with all other counsellor
applications we are looking for those who
best demonstrate an understanding of and
respect for the Camp programs, philosophy
and rules of conduct and who have demonstrated
skills in working with children and outdoor
recreation programs.
